There is an electric pump to inflate it easily. Although I have never tried other air bed mattress brands I haven't needed to. We used an Aero Bed air mattress as a loaner from a friend and it worked so well, that our family got our own aero bed mattress. We probalby use it about 10 times a year and we've had it for 2 years so far. Oh, our son really likes to bounce on it, too, when company comes over, but we put it on the carpet and he's small, so we haven't had any problems with leaks or breakage! :)
